I live in the Canyoncrest subdivision … you know, that new subdivision way out there at the bleeding EDGE of the Lethbridge Universe? It’s also the subdivision most often mistaken for Paradise Canyon which is actually at the bottom of the coulee on a Golf Course and not the same neighbourhood at all. #justsayin
Then there is Sunridge, also at the edge of the Lethbridge Universe, except you head west at the roundabout instead of east (yes, THAT roundabout at the end of University Drive, the one that made every Lethbridge driver scratch his head in confusion and cluck in disdain).
Southwest Lethbridge and the Proximity Problem
When I talk about living in Sunridge or Canyoncrest to fellow west Lethbridge residents, a common reaction is, “I would NEVER drive that far.” I find that interesting, given some of these folks drive the Whoop-Up bridge every day (something south siders find appalling). Somehow, driving all the way to the end of University Drive is simply unthinkable.
Hmm … now why is this? Is it because Canyoncrest and Sunridge are in fact a really long drive from other parts of the City? I suppose. But I’ve clocked the extra driving time from the Riverstone turn-off to my driveway in Canyon. It’s about 3 minutes.
In Calgary time, that’s about 3 seconds.
In Real Estate, Amenities Increase Proximity (Perceived or Real)
And market perception is about to change for Canyoncrest and Sunridge subdivisions. See the recent postcard announcement below. I don’t know about you, but to my caffeinated mind, the construction of a new Tim Horton’s is always the sign of something good.
