Last week we talked about how homeowners in a red hot real estate market have a natural fear of missing out, or ‘FOMO.’ That is, the moment they sign and accept an offer, they start to worry that a better offer is just around the corner. Conversely, homebuyers are getting themselves worked up about the very same thing! They offer on their dream home and then want to keep shopping.
Dearest homebuyer, please understand: when buying a multi-hundred-thousand-dollar asset, cold feet could cost you more than a broken heart.
First of all, you could lose your deposit. The seller could also sue if you try to back out of a real estate contract without a legal reason for doing so. Very bad. Second, life just doesn’t work like that, in real estate or otherwise.
Viewing homes isn’t a pastime. You are making a massive investment in your future. It is a commitment, both legal and personal. Ask questions. Choose wisely. Know that there is no perfect home or perfect decision. There may even be a home with something better than the one you choose. But you must choose!
