Not long after COVID-19 hit Canada, the Alberta government declared real estate to be essential services. As a REALTOR®, I was of course relieved for selfish reasons. However, beyond allowing agents to continue selling homes, the economic implications of trying to press pause on real estate would be profound and devastating for both the economy and for thousands of families.
Yet, what of those families who may not ‘have to’ move but who would greatly benefit —emotionally, financially and otherwise — from buying or selling a home?
I talk to folks all of the time who feel stuck in the painful limbo of indecision. The truth is, you have choices. You do not necessarily have to wait. You do have options for buying or selling during COVID. The key is to avoid using fear as a decision making tool. Many are waiting for some elusive market rebound or upswing. This approach seems sensible on the face of it, but it isn’t terribly rational.
Fact is, the Lethbridge market has been relatively flat for years and years. Prices are stable and that’s the best we can hope for as we push through this pandemic. Of course, health and safety concerns are always legitimate, and for some, those are good reasons to wait. Waiting for the market though? You could be stuck in ‘The Waiting Place’ for a very long time.
Dr. Seuss has more to say on this too. Watch my video below and then give us a call if you’re tired of waiting!
